This new course, CPS Interviewing, was developed in 1992 to meet the needs of new staff who may have little interviewing experience prior to assignment in CPS. This is a skill-building course, designed to identify the interviewing skills caseworkers need on the job, and to provide a framework for guiding and developing the skills necessary for an effective CPS interview. Practice issues relevant to communication techniques, constructive use of authority, cultural diversity, developmental distinctions, and the use of self will be explored. Caseworkers with less than 1 year of experience in CPS are appropriate for this course. The course is limited to 24 participants.
